Sweeter Than Honey
When I'm not partaking of His Word regularly, I lose an appetite for it.
I can guarantee I have never walked away from reading the Word with regret. I don’t always have an “aha” moment, but I always close the cover satisfied.
God’s Word is not only the sustainer of my life--just like food for my body—it is life.
It’s an old metaphor and I’ve heard it a hundred times over, but it doesn’t make it any less true: Just as food gives life to the body, God’s Word gives life to my mind, soul, and spirit.
God’s Word is life.
When I miss a day and then two, it’s easier to miss three and then four. I lose a taste for the desire to be in the Word because I forget how sweet it is.
Just as every morning the sun rises to give life to the earth, I must rise with it, meet God in His Word, and give life and renewal to a mind that tends to wander; to a soul thirsty for Truth and a spirit hungry for fruit.
When I rob myself of time with His Word, I starve the whole of who I am--body, soul, mind, and spirit.
I live without purpose, direction, reassurance, understanding of my faith, and correction. His Word reads me back, judging my own heart. It’s meant to train me in righteousness and equip me for every good work.
God’s Word is mercy for me! It is God’s voice written down so I can return to it again and again. What a gift!
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! -Psalm 119:103
Savoring Him,
Christin
